My favorite client is the one who comes in my door and lays out their whole life in the first 15 minutes…then when asked “So, what’s wrong?” says “I don’t know. I’m not even really sure why I’m here.” That’s real. So often, we display genius when it come to getting through the day even while our inner experience feels like a light-rail train going off the tracks in the middle of downtown during rush hour. Our culture suffers so much from separation; we don’t talk to our sweetheart about our jobs, don’t talk to our kids about national affairs, don’t talk to a new neighbor at all. As a result, layers of our own being become separated from each other so we feel like a jigsaw puzzle that’s fallen on the floor. We become disconnected…and we keep secrets.
Connection is like water; we need it to live. For a human psyche, it’s the first medicine. How connected are you feeling today…to family, neighbors, to your own heart?
